Jelani spent a day in tears after
running into the Daleks. Oh, how guilty she felt. How ashamed. It was like a veil had been lifted from her eyes and she could for the time see clearly what she had done. All those nights in shady bars, ending in her trashing the place and dragging some poor man or woman home to bed. And all those she had killed! They were so many! She couldn’t even count them all.
She didn’t go home. In her mind, her parents were now the most sinful people in existence. Well, maybe not just in her mind, but that’s beside the point.
PINpointing to earth in a random dimension, she located a monastery. She didn’t really think about where she was, but it was at the Mississippi Abbey in Iowa where she ended up. There, she begged the abbess to be taken in, crying frantically about how much evil she had done, but how she had now seen the light and how she must do what she could to atone for all her wrongdoings.
The abbess was with all right a bit weary about this overly pale girl, but allowed her to stay, at least for a few days.
Jelani was situated in a guest-house for the time being. The first day she spent in the chapel. Now, Jelani was not exactly religious even after her exposure to the
pink light red Kryptonite, but she did her best at praying. She refused to eat, saying that she didn’t deserve to.
The second day she was allowed to help the sisters with their candy-making. At dinnertime, the sisters managed to convince Jelani to eat, as she had helped them during the day.
Jelani thought herself beyond saving, but she made a vow to herself that she would try. If nothing else, perhaps she could help someone in the world.
That night, the effects of the Kryptonite wore off.
In a rare show of mercy, she gave the sisters five minutes to get themselves and any artifacts that they could grab out of harm’s way. Then she reduced the place to a crater.
